National Bank of Georgia issued a collector coin in denomination of 5 lari dedicated to the 100^th Anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. On February 1^st, the Governor of the National bank of Georgia, Koba Gvenetadze, together with the Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze and the Coin Designer, Nino Gongadze, presented coin to the audience.

"I am pleased to present you with a successful result of another interesting project of the National Bank - a collector coin, dedicated to the 100^th Anniversary of the foundation of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. For the National Bank of Georgia working on this project was truly honorable. As you are aware, the University was the first and the only educational body in Caucasus Region and with its founder Ivane Javakhishvili, it was a symbol of literacy, progress and European values even a century ago. The National Bank of Georgia congratulates the University on its 100^th Anniversary and dedicates 5 lari denomination silver collector coin",- stated the Governor of NBG, Koba Gvenetadze.

Considering Georgian language and educational traditions, Tbilisi State University is the first university in the Caucasus Region, to established European standard high education institution. Coin design was selected through an open competition and its author is Nino Gongadze. The coin was minted in Royal Mint of Spain ("Real Casa de la Moneda") and its realization will begin from today, February 1, 2018" - Mr. Koba Gvenetadze, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia stated.

The coin has been minted by the Royal Spain Mint  in amount of 1500 pieces. The sale price is 95 GEL and the coins will be available starting today, at the Cash Centre of the NBG (address: 72 Kakheti Highway, Tbilisi), Money Museum (Kvareli , Rustaveli str. N10) and from the online store on the NBG webpage.

Obverse: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is the main composition of the coin. The following inscriptions are also placed: "საქართველო", "Georgia", "1918", "2018" and "5₾".

Reverse: The Reverse of the coin bears the Coat of Arms of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The Coat of Arms is surrounded by seven luminary, which we encounter in the beginning of the twentieth century's state Coat of Arms and inscription "ხუთი ლარი".
