In cooperation with J.P. Morgan, one of the largest U.S. banks, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) hosted a roundtable meeting in Tbilisi for governors and senior representatives of central banks from up to 15 countries, marking the first event of its kind in the region.

The meeting was opened by Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia. In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of a gathering of this scale, highlighting the country’s economic growth indicators and the continued development of its financial sector. He also emphasized the important role of the financial sector in promoting economic progress and noted the growing international recognition of Georgian financial institutions.

The Prime Minister stated that the Government of Georgia remains committed to developing capital markets and creating an increasingly competitive environment for investment.

The regional macroeconomic environment and current challenges facing monetary policy were among the key topics discussed at the meeting. Participants exchanged views on global economic developments and shared their experiences in ensuring price and financial stability. Dedicated sessions addressed asset and international reserve management amid geopolitical challenges, as well as the prospects for developing local capital markets.

The event aimed to deepen cooperation among regional central banks, facilitate the exchange of experience, and promote effective responses to shared challenges.

“It is particularly important that we are hosting the first event of its kind in the region. We are especially pleased to welcome so many colleagues to Tbilisi, representing up to 15 central banks, development organizations, and the financial sector. Meetings like this are valuable not only because they provide an opportunity to exchange views on important issues shaping the development of our economies, but also because they create opportunities for open dialogue, learning from one another, and strengthening relationships among our institutions,” said Natia Turnava, Governor of the NBG.

Co-organized by the NBG and J.P. Morgan, the roundtable brought together governors, deputy governors, and other senior representatives of central banks from up to 15 countries, including Poland, Hungary, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and others. Representatives of J.P. Morgan, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank also participated in the meeting.
