The National Bank of Georgia Hosts an Event Dedicated to Bankers' Day
The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) hosted an event marking Bankers' Day and honored employees of the banking sector. NBG employees who have completed 30 years of service at the NBG were presented with certificates of merit and commemorative gifts in recognition of their outstanding professional contributions and long-standing service. Outstanding employees of commercial banks were also honored.
Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, addressed the guests and congratulated them on their professional day. She highlighted the important role played by banking professionals and noted that the success of the Georgian banking system is the result of their knowledge, experience, sense of responsibility and dedicated work.
According to Natia Turnava, Bankers' Day provides an opportunity to revisit the history of the Georgian banking system, reflect on the progress made, and recognize the people who contribute every day to shaping the future of the country's financial system.
Natia Turnava noted that the modern Georgian banking system is a worthy successor to the vision and values established by Ilia Chavchavadze and Iason Lortkipanidze. At the same time, it stands as an example of innovation, technological advancement, high standards and international competitiveness.
The NBG Governor also highlighted the resilience and strong financial performance of the Georgian banking sector. She noted that the sector is characterized by solid capital and liquidity buffers, high asset quality and sound profitability, while the share of non-performing loans remains at a historically low level.
"These indicators are not merely statistics – they reflect the system's ability to maintain stability, withstand external shocks and, at the same time, continue supporting the country's economic development," Natia Turnava stated.
Natia Turnava also spoke about the international achievements of Georgian banks. She noted that international assessments demonstrate that the Georgian financial sector has expanded beyond the domestic market and is assuming an increasingly important role in the global financial landscape.
The NBG Governor also highlighted Georgia's efforts to position itself as a regional financial hub. In this regard, she spoke about the significance of the Tbilisi Finance Summit, which brought together more than 1,000 participants and nearly 100 high-ranking guests from dozens of countries around the world.
"Our core values are trust, responsibility and professionalism - the foundations upon which the success of the Georgian banking sector is built," she noted.
David Rusia, Head of the Analytical Department of the Bankers' Association of Georgia, also addressed the event participants. He described the Georgian banking sector as one large professional family, whose role in the country's economy is exceptional. As the representative of the Bankers' Association noted, the banking system is one of the key pillars of the Georgian economy, with its activities serving to finance and support the country's economic development.
Bankers' Day has been celebrated in Georgia since 2001. November 8 marks the founding of the first Georgian bank - the Tbilisi Nobility Land Bank - and the birthday of its first head, Ilia Chavchavadze. The initiative to establish this professional day belongs to the National Bank of Georgia and the Bankers' Association.
