The National Bank of Georgia has announced the first winner of the National Financial Education Award. The recipient of the national award is Amiran Khimshiashvili, a civics teacher at the LEPL Dabadzveli Village Public School in Shuakhevi Municipality.

The National Financial Education Award is an annual competition established last year on the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia’s financial education platform, "Finedu," with the support of Basisbank. Its objective is to strengthen financial education in schools, enhance teaching quality through innovative approaches, and identify and recognize teachers who make exceptional contributions to the popularization of financial literacy among students and the broader school community.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, competition participants had the opportunity to conduct lessons and projects, develop educational resources, and implement innovative approaches in the financial education teaching process to promote financial literacy. Five teachers advanced to the final stage of the competition.

The winner was selected by a jury based on predefined criteria. The evaluation considered the alignment of the implemented activities with the goals of financial education, creative and innovative approaches, student engagement, and the achieved outcomes. The jury comprised representatives from the National Bank of Georgia, Basisbank, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, and the academic sector. The winning teacher was awarded a cash prize of 5,000 GEL from Basisbank.

The award ceremony was attended by Ekaterine Mikabadze, First Vice-Governor of the National Bank of Georgia; Levan Ghirsiashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia; and Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian National Competition and Consumer Agency. During the event, they emphasized the critical importance of strengthening financial education in schools and expressed a firm readiness to continue cooperation and support between state agencies and the financial sector in this direction.

The National Financial Education Award ceremony was held as part of the conference "Financial Education in Schools: From Idea to Classroom." The conference aimed to foster the strengthening of financial education in schools through collaboration among various stakeholders, the sharing of experience and best practices, and the provision of practical support to teachers.

The conference brought together teachers, alongside representatives from the education, public, and financial sectors. Participants discussed the national vision for financial education, opportunities for its integration into schools, accessible programs and resources for teachers, and the role of the financial sector in supporting the financial education of the future generation.

The practical segment of the conference was dedicated to sharing teachers' experiences and successful methodologies. During the workshops, participants explored topics such as the practical teaching of financial education, its integration across various subjects, project-based learning, and the utilization of digital technologies.

The next National Financial Education Award competition, which will determine the winner based on activities implemented during the 2026-2027 academic year, will be announced in the near future.
