The National Bank of Georgia is pleased to announce a competition for the design of three new collector coins on the following themes:

 

1. King Vakhtang I Gorgasali 2. King George V the Brilliant	Kings of Georgia Series

King Vakhtang I Gorgasali and King George V the Brilliant Kings of Georgia Series

 

By the decision of the Board of the National Bank of Georgia, the collector series Kings of Georgia will feature the kings whose rule was a turning point in the history of the country. The series presents the general socio-political or general cultural-historical context of the country, showcasing the crucial episodes that profoundly transformed the subsequent development of the country. In this way, the Georgian national currency pays tribute to reviving the country's historical past.

 

As the National Bank of Georgia has started working on the issue of King Vakhtang I Gorgasali and George V the Brilliant GEL 5 silver and gold collector coins, it is now announcing a competition for design sketches.

EuroBasket 2022

 

EuroBasket 2022, the 2022 European Championship is the premier basketball event, bringing together a number of countries with remarkable sporting achievements and promoting Georgia’s international status as a host and organizer. Georgia won the right to host the 2022 European Championship EuroBasket 2022 in 2019 along with Italy (Milan), Germany (Cologne, Berlin) and the Czech Republic (Prague). The right to hold an event for Georgia (Tbilisi) is an expression of confidence of the European sports community (and beyond) in our country.

 

Tbilisi is about to be in the global spotlight, welcoming top-level world and European champion national basketball teams (Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, Bulgaria) in September, 2022. At the initiative of the Georgian National Basketball Federation, Tbilisi will host important visitors and fans of Eurobasket 2022, further promoting sports tourism in our country.

 

Importantly, the Georgian basketball, counting a number of important victories since 1922, will turn 100 in 2022. Hosting Eurobasket 2022  takes this sport to new level from a qualitative viewpoint. To honor this important event, the National Bank of Georgia will issue a GEL 5 denomination coin on the theme of Eurobasket 2022 and will select the design for the coin by competition.
