The Frequency of Currency Auctions will Decrease by the Decision of National Bank of Georgia (NBG)

09 July, 2010

Since May, 2009 interventions in interbank currency exchange was substituted by currency auctions. With the new instrument methodology of determining official exchange rates was changed and the need for daily interventions has removed. Tuesday and Friday were set as an auction days at the beginning.

Recently the interbank currency market has deepened and the frequency of transactions has significantly increased, therefore NBG has decided to reduce number of days for auction to one in a week. Tuesday will be an auction day.

This decision will not affect foreign exchange intervention policy of the NBG. As previously, additional auctions will be held if needed.
