31 March, 2007
The presentation of the 200 lari banknote was held at the National Bank of Georgia. It was attended by Mr. Roman Gotsiridze, president of the National Bank of Georgia, Dr. Walter Schlebusch, Executive Director of the German company Giesecke & Devrient, Mr. Dietmar Reichel, Regional Director of the same company, and the authors of the design of the banknote – Mr. Nodar and Bacha Malazonia.   The front side of the banknote features the portrait of Kaikhosro (Kakutsa) Cholokashvili, the Georgian national hero. The fragments of the reliefs of the Georgian cultural monuments are used as a background. The reverse side of the banknote features the view of Sokhumi and a fragment of the relief image found in Tsebelda, Abkhazia. The banknote bears legends in the Georgian, Abkhazian and English languages “two hundred lari”, “Sokhumi”, “Abkhazia”.   “An artistic detail on a banknote is a sign of the issuer country’s political-economic transformations, the spirit of the time, the public attitude, goals and dreams. One side of the new 200 lari banknote features the view of Sokhumi, and the other – Kaikhosro (Kakutsa) Cholokashvili, the Georgian national hero. This theme unifies the past, present and future of Georgia. It is the symbol of the country’s freedom and territorial integrity”, Mr. Roman Gotsiridze, president of the National Bank of Georgia, said at the presentation.   He added, “It is not by accident that the new 200 lari banknote features Abkhazia, equally precious for Georgians and Abkhazians. We, Georgians and Abkhazians have common cultural roots. The view of Abkhazia on the Georgian money is the signal that Abkhazia should be re-built by our nations together, and then live there side by side in piece”.   “The 200 lari banknote was produced at Giesecke & Devrient and it is one of the most secured banknotes in the world. Several exclusive technological novelties of the security features are used on the banknote, making it a distinguished banknote in the world”, Dr. Walter Schlebusch, Executive Director of the German company Giesecke & Devrient said. Dr. Schlebusch arrived in Tbilisi specially for the 200 lari presentation.
