Official Russian Statistics of Money Transfers Reveals the lie of Russian Politicians
25 October, 2006
The Central Bank of Russia statistics make the declaration of Russian politicians about the likelihood of transferring significant sums from Russia to Georgia groundless. Georgia was not included even in the group of first five countries according to the volume of money transfers from Russia to CIS countries. In the second quarter of 2006 the biggest amount from Russia was transferred to China (663 mln USD), and as for the post-soviet countries - to Ukraine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova. According to the volume of transmissions among the leaders are USA (238 mln USD), UK (234 mln USD) and Turkey (233 mln USD).
One of the leading Russian editions - “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” notifies, that the Central Bank of Russia data radically differ from the propaganda conducted by the politicians during the last months according to which the main cash flows within CIS allegedly fall on Georgia.
According to the Central Bank of Russia report, the most popular directions for money transfers for the reporting period in CIS area are Ukraine, Uzbekistan (220 mln USD each) and Tajikistan (187 mln USD). Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova are among the leaders. Georgia occupies one of the last places in this list with its 81 mln USD. It should be noted, that the total amount of remittances (1.3 billion USD) to CIS countries during the second quarter was quite insignificant as compared to the remittances to foreign countries
