New Data Storage and Archive Technologies at the Bank
06 June, 2005
The UGT Company installed the new SAN (Storage Area Networking) technology at the National Bank, in order to protect the database.According to Vice-president Giorgi Glonti, at any time of operation, old inflexible technologies in any company may become no longer able to meet the requirements and thus they need to be replaced. The information technologies at the National Bank consisted of local area network and servers. As the database became larger, a number of difficulties emerged, especially the archiving of the information accumulated over years. The protection of this information and database is very important for the Bank. For this purpose the new SAN technology was installed to ensure high capacity of the centralized data storage (disk massives). This new archiving and reserving technology implies a unified, consolidated doubled system of information, easing the safety of the management of the internal Bank information, and shortly restoring the operation regime of the system when it goes out of order. The advantage of SAN is the simplicity and flexibility of the implementation of necessary changes. In addition, it enables to add a new server, massive, and reserving and other equipment without stopping the system.
