The National Bank of Georgia honored the outstanding employees of the banking sector in the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia to celebrate Banker's Professional Day.

At the event, certificates of honor and commemorative gifts were presented to the NBG employees with more than 35 years of professional merit for their invaluable work. Employees of commercial banks were also awarded on the Banker's Day for the first time this year.

Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament, and Levan Davitashvili, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, addressed the guests and conveyed special greetings for their professional day.

Natia Turnava noted that today's solid, reliable and innovative financial and banking system is among the leaders in the region.

"We are here today to celebrate the professional day of the bankers and the banking sector in Georgia, which has been marked for many years. This symbolic date is also the birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze, founder and leader of the first commercial bank in Tbilisi,” Natia Turnava said.

Natia Turnava added that the NBG, as a regulator, will continue to work to set higher industry standards and keep financial stability as the cornerstone of economic development.

Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament, noted that the banking and financial sector have been successfully developing over the years and operates archetypal for the benefit of our country and citizens.

"It is especially gratifying when we talk about the industry that demonstrates exceptional stability and public confidence in this turbulent environment. It is due to this confidence that many problems and risks were eliminated for our people; for this I would like to thank, first of all, the NBG and, of course, the representatives of the banking and financial sector", said the Chairman of the Parliament.

Levan Davitashvili, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, emphasized in his speech that close cooperation between the state and banks is an important prerequisite for the country to overcome exogenous shocks.

"We enjoy an excellent cooperation with the NBG and the banking sector, and I think that this dialogue, which the Government of Georgia and its economic team have with the private sector, is a very important prerequisite to overcome external shocks more easily," said Levan Davitashvili.

The Banker’s Professional Day has been marked since 2001 for over 20 years, every November 8, and was established at the discretion of the National Bank of Georgia and the Bankers’ Association. It relates to the 125th anniversary of the first Georgian bank and November 8, the 163rd birthday of its founder and first leader, Ilia Chavchavadze.

The guests invited to the event had the opportunity to view the exhibition of unique Georgian bons and bank shares.
