Natia Turnava: "We discussed future cooperation with Visa and Mastercard on the project of introducing an instant payment system"
Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, met with the representatives of Visa and Mastercard - the leading international card systems. The meeting in Marrakesh was part of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
During the meetings both with Visa and Mastercard companies, the parties discussed future cooperation issues and projects. In addition, they talked about the development of digital technologies and non-cash payment systems in banking services, including the implementation of the instant payments system in Georgia.
According to Natia Turnava, the introduction of the instant payment system will help increase the competitiveness between commercial banks and non-bank tax service providers. Visa and Mastercard are important partners of the National Bank of Georgia in the development of non-cash payments in the country. "During the meetings, we talked about an important project such as the introduction of an instant payment system, which the NBG is actively working on. This system will speed up the payment process and improve the quality of customer service, which is one of our key tasks," noted Natia Turnava.
Visa and Mastercard have been operating in Georgia for over 20 years. They actively cooperate with various departments of the NBG on payment systems, financial education, digital currency, Open Banking and other topical issues.
