Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in an event dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Auditing Supervision (SARAS).

The anniversary event was opened by Davit Mchedlidze, Head of SARAS. Welcoming remarks were delivered to the participants by Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance; Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia; Bezhan Tsakadze, Deputy Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament; and Rolande Pryce, World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus.

During her address, Natia Turnava highlighted the significant reforms and achievements accomplished by SARAS over the past decade. She emphasized that the quality, transparency, and accountability of financial reporting are no longer merely technical or formal requirements today, but rather serve as a crucial foundation for a sound business environment, financial system stability, and overall economic development.

"High-quality and transparent financial information fosters trust. Such trust is essential for investors, creditors, financial institutions, regulators, and society as a whole," stated Natia Turnava.

According to the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, the operations of SARAS are of exceptional importance to the National Bank as well, since the shared objective of both institutions is to cultivate an environment where financial decisions are grounded in high-quality, reliable, and transparent information.

Natia Turnava also drew attention to the collaboration between the National Bank and SARAS, noting that this partnership has consistently deepened over the years. Notably, in 2020, an agreement was executed between the two agencies aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination concerning issuers of public securities.

As a prominent example of this collaboration, the Governor highlighted the unified reporting portal, Reportal.ge, which provided issuers of public securities with the capability to publish reports and other regulated information utilizing a "single-window" principle.

Furthermore, Natia Turnava discussed the Best Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA). According to her, this initiative facilitates the cultivation of a corporate culture where high-quality reporting and transparency become intrinsic organizational values. "I am confident that the scope of cooperation between the National Bank of Georgia and SARAS will expand even further in the coming years," stated the Governor of the NBG.

As part of the anniversary event, employees and board members of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Auditing Supervision were recognized and awarded for their long-standing cooperation. Among the recipients was Andria Manelashvili, Head of the Finance and Accounting Department at the National Bank of Georgia, who was honored with an award.
