23 November, 2024

Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), took part in a panel discussion at the CEEI Conference, focusing on the progress and challenges of European economic integration.

During the discussion, Turnava emphasized the NBG's commitment to accelerating the integration of Georgia's financial services into the EU market. She also highlighted opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation between the NBG, EU institutions, and the European Central Bank.

Turnava noted Georgia's recent achievements in economic stability and growth, stating:

"Last year's economic growth in Georgia was 7.8%. This year, we estimate growth will reach 8.5%. As for inflation, we have successfully contained it since the beginning of 2023. Currently, the country’s inflation rate is well below the 3% target. By October 2024, headline inflation stands at 0.3%, while core inflation is 1.2%."

The panel discussion featured Vitas Vasiliauskas, Executive Director of the Nordic-Baltic Constituency at the International Monetary Fund, alongside Turnava. The session was moderated by Robert Holzmann, Governor of the Austrian Central Bank.

This year's CEEI Conference, hosted by the Austrian Central Bank, centered on European economic integration. The event attracted senior representatives from central banks, international organizations, and academic institutions.
