Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, took part in the 24th Annual Conference of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), titled "Central Banks in Times of Digitalisation and Fragmentation."

Held in Basel as part of the BIS Annual Meetings, the conference focused on the evolving role of central banks amid digital transformation and global economic fragmentation.

Panel discussions explored a range of critical issues, including digital finance, liquidity, fiscal and monetary policy, as well as the complex challenges central banks face today and the strategies to address them.

The event featured a keynote speech by Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank.

In her remarks, Natia Turnava emphasized the significance of Georgia’s participation in global financial dialogues of this scale.

The conference brought together leaders of major central banks, including Jerome Powell, Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, alongside economic experts and representatives of international financial institutions.

In parallel with the conference, this year also marked the 95th Annual Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements. Established in 1930, the BIS is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and works exclusively with central banks and international financial institutions to foster global monetary and financial stability.
