Natia Turnava Opens Seminar together with First Vice-President of EBRD

Supervisory priorities for credit risks and non-performing loans and their impact on Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region – NBG Head Office hosted a seminar under this title today. The goal of the joint seminar of the NBG and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is to create a common platform for sharing experience and knowledge. The event was opened by Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Jürgen Rigterink, First Vice-President of the EBRD. The seminar was attended by representatives of the National Bank of Georgia, Central Banks of Armenia, Ukraine and Moldova.


Jürgen Rigterink, EBRD's First Vice-President and Head of Client Services Group, and Matteo Patrone, the Managing Director, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus (EEC) at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), are on a working visit to the Caucasus.


During the meeting with Natia Turnava, the discussion focused on the economic situation in the region and underlying challenges. Acting Governor informed the guests about the positive trends in the capital market of Georgia and the actions taken by the NBG. It was noted that the reforms of the NBG support the development of the capital market.


Priority areas of current and future cooperation were discussed at the meeting. Acting Governor of the NBG thanked the EBRD for the work done. Natia Turnava expressed her hope that close cooperation will continue in the future.


"Our priority is to promote the development of the securities market in Georgia, protect the interests of investors, establish transparency of information and free competition in the market. In this sense, EBRD is our important partner. It was the EBRD that first issued the GEL-denominated security to support the development of the capital market in Georgia," said Natia Turnava.


The meeting was also attended by Vice-Governors of the National Bank of Georgia, Regional Director of the EBRD in the Caucasus, Alkis Vryenios Drakinos and his predecessor, Catarina Bjorlin Hansen.
