Natia Turnava Meets with the Leader of the Asian Development Bank

26 July, 2023

Natia Turnava met with Kamel Bouhmad, Acting Regional Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), at the Headquarters of the National Bank of Georgia.

The meeting underscored the importance of cooperation with ADB and reviewed ADB-supported joint projects implemented in Georgia in recent years.

The discussion covered current macroeconomic trends and financial stability issues. Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, highlighted the consistent steps the National Bank of Georgia was taking in response to global challenges.

"Georgia enjoys multiple years of cooperation with the Asian Development Bank. With their support, a number of infrastructure projects were implemented in our country. ADB provided programmatic assistance to support Georgia’s sustainable and inclusive growth. This has helped increase Georgia’s fiscal resilience to shocks following the COVID-19 crisis and amid the heightened economic uncertainty following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Importantly, ADB actively supports the development of Georgian securities markets. For this purpose, the Asian Development Bank issued lari bonds in 2019, which helped reinforce the lariization policy declared by the NBG," Natia Turnava said.
