Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, met with Masatsugu Asakawa, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The parties talked about the importance of cooperation between the National Bank of Georgia and the ADB and reviewed the joint projects implemented in Georgia with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

The discussion covered the current macroeconomic trends and financial stability issues, as well as the policy pursued by the NBG in terms of inflation control. Natia Turnava focused on the NBG's innovative policy, including the fintech ecosystem and electronic services development projects, as well as the design of appropriate infrastructure.

The meeting emphasized the efforts to speed up the renewal of the program with the International Monetary Fund, as well as the consistent steps taken by the NBG in response to global challenges.

The parties talked about the importance of holding the ADB's annual meeting in Georgia, both in terms of presenting the country's investment opportunities and the reforms implemented. The Acting Governor of the NBG noted that she welcomes this decision. In 2024, Georgia will host the 57th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank for the first time.

 

"Partnership between ADB and Georgia dates back almost three decades. Asian Development Bank is one of the key supporters of multifaceted, sustainable and inclusive development of our country. Next year, the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank will be held in our country for the first time, which is of great importance. Georgia will host high-ranking delegations, representatives of international financial institutions and the private sector. In our country, we will be given the opportunity to present Georgia's investment potential on global platforms and establish new contacts," said Natia Turnava.

The meeting held at the NBG Headquarters was attended by Rachel Thompson, Executive Director of Asian Development Bank and the member of the Board of Directors, Eugene Zhukov, Director General of the ADB’s Central and West Asia Regional Department, Lesley Bearman Lahm, ADB’s Country Director for Georgia, and other members of the delegation, as well as NBG Vice Governors Ekaterine Mikabadze and Ekaterine Galdava.
