16 May, 2025

As part of the 34th Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance, held a meeting with Matteo Patrone, EBRD Vice President for Banking, responsible for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

The meeting underscored the importance of close and continuous cooperation between Georgia’s financial sector and the EBRD.

During the discussion, Natia Turnava presented positive developments in the Georgian banking sector to the EBRD delegation. She emphasized that Georgia’s financial sector is among the most dynamic and transparent in the region, making it highly attractive to both investors and international financial institutions.

“In terms of financing the financial sector, the EBRD is one of Georgia’s leading partners. It has already contributed USD 566 million to our financial system. Our banks are attractive to both international investors and international financial institutions—not only because they are among the most rapidly growing and profitable, but also because they uphold high standards of transparency. Therefore, the cooperation between the EBRD and Georgia is well-founded, and we expect it to continue with the same strength and intensity,” said Natia Turnava.

Also present at the meeting were Elisabetta Falcetti, EBRD Managing Director for Türkiye and the Caucasus; Alkis Vryenios Drakinos, EBRD Director and Regional Head for the Caucasus; and Tamás Vojnits, EBRD Board Director representing the Constituency of Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Croatia, and Georgia.
