22 November, 2024

Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Natia Turnava, held a meeting with Peter Kažimír, Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), during her visit to Austria.

The discussions between the two central bank leaders focused on strengthening future cooperation, reviewing ongoing projects, and emphasizing Georgia's stable macroeconomic environment. Turnava highlighted the NBG's policies that underpin the country’s financial stability, reinforcing the importance of such measures for continued economic progress.

Natia Turnava expressed her gratitude to Peter Kažimír for Slovakia's instrumental support in Georgia's journey toward joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). She also acknowledged the Bank of Slovakia’s assistance in exploring the launch of a regional, long-term program under the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

“We deeply value the ongoing support of the Bank of Slovakia in advancing this important initiative,” Turnava noted. “The National Bank of Georgia is closely collaborating with the ESCB Technical Cooperation Team on the potential rollout of an EU-funded, long-term regional program. If approved, this initiative will offer comprehensive technical assistance to the central banks of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The program is currently under discussion among EU member states and institutions.”

Peter Kažimír commended the progress made since their June meeting in Tbilisi, highlighting how the international relations teams of Georgia and Slovakia have benefited from the exchange of knowledge and expertise in areas such as international cooperation and technical assistance.

Natia Turnava is in Austria to participate in the Conference on European Economic Integration (CEEI), organized by the Austrian National Bank.
