In February 2009 the volume of money transfers from abroad constituted 52.4 million USD, which is 12.9 million USD or 19.8 percent less than the same figure for February 2008. The decrease of overall volume of remittances is due to their decrease from Russia by 12.1 million USD or 30.9 percent. Remittances from other countries remained on about the same level.

 

87.1 percent of total money transfers from abroad fall on those seven big donor countries, from which the volume of such transfers exceeds 1 million USD. It is noteworthy that in February of last year share of these 7 countries constituted 89.8 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

It is notable, that in February 2009 5.7 million USD were transferred from Georgia, while in February 2008 this figure amounted to 6.4 million USD. The volume of money transfers from Georgia to Russia and Armenia decreased by 683.7 thousand USD, while transfers to USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel and Italy increased by 374.3 thousand USD.

In the reporting month the most popular among the fast money transfer systems for sending money to Georgia were: Western Union (25.8 percent of total amount), Anelic (14.1 percent), Contact (12.1 percent), Unistream (11.3 percent), Money Gram (9.1 percent), Ria (5.8 percent), Быстрая почта (4.4 percent), Leader (4.2 percent), Intel Express (4.1 percent).

For money transfer from Georgia most popular in January were Western Union (51.6 percent), Anelik (14.0 percent), Быстрая почта (9.8 percent), Unistream (4.9 percent), Leader (4.5 percent), Contact (3.9 percent), Money Gram (2.9 percent).
