In April 2009 the volume of money transfers from abroad constituted 60.7 million USD, which is 22.9 million USD or 27.4 percent less than the same figure for April 2008. The decrease of overall volume of remittances is mainly due to their decrease from Russia by 19.2 million USD or 37.5 percent. The volume of remittances also decreased for Ukraine (1.9 million USD or 31.2 percent decrease), Armenia (1.7 million USD or 70.9 percent decrease), Spain (0.6 million USD or 27.4 percent decrease), as well as for some other countries.

87.3 percent of total money transfers from abroad fall on those seven big donor countries, from which the volume of such transfers exceeded 1 million USD in April. It is noteworthy that in April of last year share of these 7 countries constituted 88.5 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

In April 2009 5.8 million USD were transferred from Georgia, in April 2008 this figure amounted to 7.6 million USD. The volume of money transfers from Georgia decreased for Russia (by 0.8 million USD or 22.8 percent), as well as for some other countries. 


In the reporting month the most popular among the fast money transfer systems for sending money to Georgia were: Western Union (24.9 percent of total amount), Anelic (13.3 percent), Unistream (13.0 percent), Contact (12.8 percent), Money Gram (8.6 percent), Ria (5.5 percent), Быстрая почта (4.6 percent), Intel Express (4.5 percent), Leader (3.7 percent).


For money transfer from Georgia most popular in March were Western Union (46.9 percent), Anelik (16.0 percent), Unistream (8.3 percent), Быстрая почта (7.4 percent), Contact (5.3 percent), Leader (4.1 percent).
