In 2008 total volume of money transfers to Georgia exceeded 1 billion US dollars, which is 136.0 million US dollars or 15.7 percent more than the same figure for 2007. The highest intensity of money transfers during the year occurred in July and December, 97.4 and 108.8 million US dollars respectively, while the lowest occurred in January – 58.5 million US dollars.

92.4 percent of total money transfers from abroad fall on those big nine donor countries, from which the volume of such transfers exceeds 1 million US dollars. Last year share of these 9 countries constituted 91.4 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

In 2008 84.3 million US dollars were transferred from Georgia abroad. 68.6 percent of this amount fall on Russia (42.9 percent), Ukraine (16.1 percent), Turkey (5.9 percent) and USA (3.7 percent).

In the past year the most popular among the fast money transfer systems for transferring money to Georgia were: Western Union (20.0 percent), Contact (18.6 percent), Anelic (16.8 percent), Unistream (14.6 percent), Leader (6.7 percent), Money Gram (5.6 percent), Быстрая почта (5.4),  Intel Express (2.7 percent).

For money transfer from Georgia most popular in 2008 were Western Union (44.5 percent), Anelik (17.7 percent), Leader (13.8 percent), Unistream (6.7 percent), Быстрая почта (6.5), Contact (4.4 percent).
