Money Transfers in May
In May 2009 the volume of money transfers from abroad constituted 61.7 million USD, which is 18.9 million USD or 23.4 percent less than the same figure for May 2008. The decrease of overall volume of remittances is mainly due to their decrease from Russia by 16.6 million USD or 34.3 percent. The volume of remittances also decreased for Ukraine (1.3 million USD or 23.3 percent decrease), Armenia (1.3 million USD or 64.1 percent decrease), Spain (0.5 million USD or 22.7 percent decrease), as well as for some other countries.
88.8 percent of total money transfers from abroad fall on those eight big donor countries, from which the volume of such transfers exceeded 1 million USD in May. It is noteworthy that in May of the past year the share of these 8 countries constituted 89.1 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

In May 2009 5.9 million USD were transferred from Georgia, while in May 2008 this figure amounted to 7.9 million USD. The volume of money transfers from Georgia decreased for Russia (by 1.0 million USD or 22.8 percent), as well as for some other countries.
