Koba Gvenetadze met with the Ambassador of the European Union Carl Hartzell
Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, Koba Gvenetadze welcomed Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, at NBG headquarters. The meeting focused on the economic consequences and challenges of the ongoing warfare in Ukraine. Governor Gvenetadze briefed the Ambassador about the actions taken by the National Bank of Georgia. Carl Hartzell was provided with detailed information on the measures taken to comply with the international financial sanctions imposed on Russian banks in the Georgian financial sector.
The policy implemented by the NBG, Governor noted, has allowed the financial sector to successfully pass a rather severe phase of the pandemic-driven shock, and it is now equipped with solid capital and liquidity buffers to face the potential threats posed by the situation in the region.
Underscoring the importance of cooperation between Georgia and the European Union, the parties discussed the future prospects for enhanced cooperation.
