Global Money Week International Panel: Governor Gvenetadze Discusses Importance of Financial Education and Georgia’s Experience
Global Money Week has been celebrated for a decade in over 170 countries around the world. Initiated and organized by the National Bank of Georgia, Global Money Week (GMW) has been celebrated in Georgia since 2014, with over ten organizations being involved in it every year. Koba Gvenetadze, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, took part in the launch event of the 10 Year Anniversary Week, organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE).
At the GMW Launch Event panel, Koba Gvenetadze spoke at length about the importance of financial education and informed the participants about the actions taken by the National Bank for this purpose. He noted that the National Bank of Georgia has always considered financial education as an essential part of the consumer financial protection system, so the last decade has seen considerable changes in this regard.
"In 2020, the National Bank of Georgia, within the framework of the National Strategy for Financial Education, was pleased to present a new educational platform - FinEdu.gov.ge, a multimedia resource hub that offers useful information on financial education, including tips, calculators, publications, brochures, thematic textbooks and a blog. Importantly, the information provided by FinEdu.gov.ge to its users is impartial and in harmony with applicable law. The platform is enjoyed by young people. Our strategy for the coming years is to attract the audience through online communication channels and various activities. A comprehensive approach and joint efforts is what it takes to achieve the desired level of financial education in our country. In 10 years, our current audience will have become a generation actively involved in financial life. Therefore, I hope that our financial literacy efforts will help them make sound and responsible financial decisions,"- said Koba Gvenetadze.
The National Bank of Georgia and its financial education portal - Finedu.gov.ge are pleased to invite commercial banks, microfinance institutions, educational institutions and representatives of the civil sector to be involved in the GMW-dedicated events on March 21 to 27, 2022.
