Global Finance Names Koba Gvenetadze among the Best Central Bankers for the Fifth Time in a Row

07 September, 2022

Global Finance, the world's leading finance publication, named NBG Governor Koba Gvenetadze among the best Governors of the world's Central Banks in 2022 - this is his fifth consecutive award.

A The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, grade the Central Bank Governors based on an “A” to “F” scale for success in areas such as inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management. (“A” represents an excellent performance down through “F” for outright failure.)  Widely recognized in the international finance community, the award reflects the high reputation and successful performance of the awardees and central banks, and has become a recognized and trusted standard of excellence for many years.

Global Finance included the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia in its ratings for the first time in 2018. For the fifth year in a row, he is on the list of the best Central Bank Governors with A and A- grades. The award ceremony of this group of central bank leaders is traditionally held in October in Washington, D.C., as part of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

In the 2022 Central Banker Report Cards rates 96 central bankers, including EU Central Bank Governors. Of these, there are only 21 Governors with the highest grades. Along with Koba Gvenetadze, Global Finance’s list of the best Central Bank Governors includes Central Bankers of Sweden, New Zealand, Brazil, China, Israel and other developed and developing countries.

“As fears of a global recession take hold around the world, the spotlight is on central bankers to enact policies that help avert this scenario,” said Global Finance founder and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo. “Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards analyze and rate the financial policy leaders that are making the best decision and those that need to improve.”
