Ekaterine Mikabadze Participates in Meeting on Microfinance Organizations

Ekaterine Mikabadze, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in a round table meeting on microfinance organizations.


The round table was held as part of the 57th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in cooperation with Credo Bank and Mastercard. Vakhtang Sikharulishvili, the head of the Banking Supervision Department of the National Bank of Georgia, also participated.


The meeting discussed the microfinance industry's efforts to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), low-income groups, and women entrepreneurs, as well as financial sustainability and issues caused by climate change. The discussion also covered the impact of digitalization on the microfinance industry and the challenges posed by increased competition.


Additionally, the participants discussed steps to enhance the availability of financial and digital services, as well as strategies to support MSMEs and women-led businesses.


Ekaterine Mikabadze introduced the participants to the legislative and supervisory opportunities for further developing the microfinance industry, the potential for sustainable finance in the sector, and the approaches of the NBG towards fintechs and digitalization.


The meeting was also attended by representatives of commercial banks, microfinance organizations, regulatory bodies, and fintech companies.
