Ekaterine Mikabadze Participates in Conference Supported by Galt & Taggart and USAID Economic Governance Program
Ekaterine Mikabadze, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, recently participated in a conference on the development of securitization in Georgia. The event, supported by Galt & Taggart and the USAID Economic Governance Program, aimed to discuss the emergence of alternative financing sources in Georgia. During her speech, Mikabadze highlighted the NBG's efforts in implementing capital market reforms and stressed the importance of these reforms for Georgia's financial landscape.
In December 2023, the Parliament of Georgia approved the law on securitization and related legislative amendments. The new legal framework substantially reduces the risks associated with securitization and provides transaction transparency for investors.
The reform’s goal is to increase the financing availability in Georgia for both financial and non-financial sectors. The new law enables businesses to convert future receivables into current liquid assets, facilitating expansion.
The conference participants also reviewed Galt & Taggart's research on global securitization trends, providing insights into Georgia's prospects in this area.
