11 October, 2024

Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, took part in a conference organized by BKN301 Group. During the event, BKN301 Group introduced its BaaS (Banking-as-a-Service) orchestrator for the Georgian market, aiming to expand financial technology horizons across the Caucasus.

In her speech, Galdava highlighted the significant potential of the fintech sector and underscored the vital role of regulators in fostering innovation within the supervisory field.

“The size of our financial markets is too small to drive innovation organically. This is where the regulator steps in, playing a crucial role in promoting supervisory innovation. NBG initiatives focus on creating an environment where fresh ideas can flourish—an environment where startups and established companies can collaborate and thrive. We are actively working to stimulate more innovation and competition across various sectors,” Galdava stated.

She also elaborated on the country's fintech strategy, currently being developed with assistance from the World Bank. According to Galdava, the strategy is built on three key pillars: policy, infrastructure, and ecosystem.

Conference discussions further explored the future of payments in Georgia and the Caucasus, with particular emphasis on BaaS and Payments-as-a-Service as emerging digital wallet solutions.
