
David Abesadze Participates in an IOSCO Panel Discussion on the Implementation of Sustainability Reporting
David Abesadze, Head of the Securities Market Supervision Department of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in a panel discussion held in Malta within the framework of the annual meeting of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
The panel discussion was dedicated to the activities of the Sustainability Standards Implementation Network (SSIN) operating under the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC). The Network, which the National Bank of Georgia joined in 2024, supports IOSCO member organizations in the implementation of the reporting framework developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
During the panel discussion, participants reviewed the experiences of various countries in implementing sustainability reporting. The discussion covered key issues such as the development of sustainability reporting policies, the establishment of regulatory frameworks, the identification of entities subject to reporting requirements, and market readiness.
Within the framework of the event, David Abesadze also participated in the meeting of IOSCO’s European Regional Committee (ERC).
It should be noted that the National Bank of Georgia became a member of IOSCO in 2021. Currently, IOSCO brings together 133 supervisory authorities worldwide. The organization’s main objectives are investor protection, ensuring market transparency, and supporting financial stability through the reduction of systemic risks.
Within IOSCO, the National Bank of Georgia is also a member of the European Regional Committee (ERC) and the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC). In addition, in 2021 the National Bank of Georgia acceded to IOSCO’s Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding concerning consultation and cooperation and the exchange of information.
