Current Condition of Commercial Banks’ Assets

As of July 1, 2009, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 20 commercial banks, including 15 foreign-controlled banks and 2 branches of non-resident banks. Compared to the previous month total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) decreased by 97.2 million GEL (by 1.2 percent) and constituted 7y29.8 million GEL. The banking sector’s own funds (equity capital) equal to 1534.2 million GEL, which makes up 19.8 percent of commercial banks’ total assets.

Compared to the previous month, the number of foreign-controlled banks did not change and their share in the banks’ total equity capital made up 86.2 percent.

The share of five banks having the largest assets within the total amount of the banking sector assets did not change compared to the previous month and remained at the same level in June - 78.9 percent.
