Front side of the historical building of the National Bank of Georgia will be illuminated at night. For this purpose 600 lamps of various size and power were mounted there. The building built in the beginning of the 20the century has been illuminated after 100 years.
“Building of the National Bank of Georgia is one of the remarkable buildings in Tbilisi. From the very beginning of its construction it was intended specially for the banking institution and it is still functioning as a bank up to now”-stated the President of the National Bank of Georgia Roman Gotsiridze. According to him building of the National Bank of Georgia is the integrated part of the Freedom Square’s architectural ensemble. Front side of the Bank is nearly similar to the initial one and now it is symbolic that it has been illuminated 100 years after its construction.
The construction is built in a modern style during the period of 1901-1906 and from the very beginning it was intended for functioning as a banking institution. In the beginning of the 20th century commercial banks of Azov-Don and Volga-Kama were situated there. Later on, from the year of 1910 until Georgia became Soviet, the building belonged to the Branch of Nobleman’s Land Bank of Transcaucasia. During the time of the Soviet Union the building was occupied by Georgian branch of the USSR State Bank and since 1991 for the time being, it has been operating as the National Bank of Georgia.
