A Workshop on Business Continuity in the Banking Sector was Conducted in the National Bank of Georgia

A workshop on business continuity concept, high availability and disaster recovery systems in the banking sector was conducted by the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia on the 27th September. The representatives of VERITAS and IBM, HP and APC partner companies to Georgia took part in the workshop.
The Vice-President of the National Bank of Georgia, Mr. George Glonti, in his welcoming speech to the workshop participants said that the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia to conduct a workshop on business stability and continuity was determined by up-to-date demands for development of banking systems. He said that “any company had to introduce new systems at certain stages. The issue of the bank’s business continuity in the banking system and development of technologies related thereto are vitally important. This workshop will tend strengthening of the technological part of commercial banks, minimization of risks and ensure efficient management of crisis situations.
Managers of VERITAS Software, one of the leader companies worldwide, Alexander Prokhorov and Pavel Khrapkin carried out a presentation on “Business Continuity Concept and its Requirements in the Banking Sector” for IT managers of commercial banks of Georgia. In his speech Alexander Prokhorov said that the project, which had been implemented in the National Bank of Georgia, was one of the best solutions – a disaster recovery system was created by minimal costs, which complies with the International Standards and meets the business continuity demands.
The employees of the National Bank of Georgia, UGT, ALTA and Delta - Comm companies shared their experience regarding data storage technologies, server solutions, uninterrupted power supply systems and other issues with the workshop participants.
To protect information and database of the National Bank of Georgia, in May of the current year the National Bank of Georgia developed high availability and disaster recovery system which is more convenient from technological standpoint and is more cost-efficient as compared with standard solution of its development.
