Natia Turnava Appointed as Georgia’s Governor of the IMF, BSTDB, and Alternate Governor of the EBRD
By decree of the Government of Georgia, Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, has been appointed as the Governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), as well as an Alternate Governor of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The decree was signed by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze.
Natia Turnava assumed leadership of the National Bank of Georgia as its Governor on February 7 of this year. Prior to that, she served as First Vice Governor and Acting Governor of the NBG since June 2023 and has been a member of the Bank’s Board since 2022.
An economist by profession, Natia Turnava holds a PhD in Economics from Tbilisi State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cumbria, UK. She has also studied at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI), and other institutions. Additionally, she has lectured at several higher education institutions in Tbilisi.
Notably, Natia Turnava is the first woman in the history of the National Bank of Georgia to hold the position of Governor.
