NBG Publishes New Draft of the National Strategy for Financial Education

22 September, 2022

The National Bank of Georgia publishes a new draft of the National Strategy for Financial Education. This effort serves to continue to take care of raising financial education across the country.

The current Strategy for Financial Education was developed in 2016 as the first precedent for this type of document in Georgia, based on international experience and best practices. The Strategy highlighted the importance of financial education, raising awareness of the benefits of financial education, and was meant to enhance coordination and cooperation among stakeholders, providing greater capacity for financial education. The updated strategy paper was developed based on the experience and, hence, better responds to the current challenges of financial education.

The new national strategy for financial education will be the key reference document for any party interested in promoting financial education. Defining priority goals and objectives, the strategy promotes cooperation between stakeholders in a more practical format and stimulates increased access to financial education. Other key features include: covering all target groups, implementing activities tailored to their needs and ensuring the sustainability and continuity of these activities.

Bearing in mind the importance for public, private and civil sector stakeholders to be actively involved in developing the final version of the strategy, the National Bank of Georgia publishes the draft strategy on its webpage, making it publicly available.

Opinions and suggestions, comments and recommendations are welcome and appreciated before October 22, 2022 to the following e-mail: fe@nbg.gov.ge

Taking care of raising financial education is one of the key priorities for the NBG. A number of important actions were taken in the past years within the framework of the National Strategy for Financial Education. These included: integration of financial education topics into the national school curriculum, FinEdu - the first web portal of financial education (https://www.finedu.gov.ge/www.finedu.gov.ge), development of financial education programs, online and printed educational materials and videos for various target groups, conducting annual awareness raising events, competitions, webinars and trainings.
