Current Condition of Commercial Banks Loan Portfolio

The volume of lending by commercial banks (including loans to non-residents) in April 2019 decreased by 104.3 million GEL or by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month (exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending decreased by 0.6 percent) and constituted 26.7 billion GEL by May 1, 2019. The volume of loans in the national currency increased by 120.7 million GEL (1.0 percent) and the volume of loans in foreign currency decreased by 225.0 million GEL or by 1.5 percent in the same period (exchange rate effect excluded, above mentioned indicator decreased by 1.8 percent).

By the end of April 2019, the total volume of national currency denominated loans issued by commercial banks amounted to 3.5 billion GEL (0.7 percent less compared to the previous month), and foreign currency denominated loans to resident legal entities constituted 8.3 billion GEL (1.7 percent less; exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending in the foreign currency decreased by 1.9 percent).

During April 2019, the volume of lending to resident individuals increased by 0.7 percent or 101.5 million GEL, and constituted 14.2 billion GEL by May 1, 2019.

Larization ratio for total loans constituted 43.92 percent by May 1, 2019 and increased by 0.62 percentage point (exchange rate effect excluded increased by 0.71 percentage point), compared to April 1, 2018.
