Current Condition of Commercial Banks Loan Portfolio

The volume of lending by commercial banks (including loans to non-residents) in March 2019 increased by 316.7 million GEL or by 1.2 percent compared to the previous month (exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending increased by 1.3 percent) and constituted 26.8 billion GEL by April 1, 2019. The volume of loans in the national currency increased by 226.8 million GEL (2.0 percent) and the volume of loans in foreign currency increased by 89.9  million GEL or by 0.6 percent in the same period (exchange rate effect excluded, above mentioned indicator increased by 0.7 percent).

By the end of March 2019, the total volume of national currency denominated loans issued by commercial banks amounted to 3.5 billion GEL (2.8 percent more compared to the previous month), and foreign currency denominated loans to resident legal entities constituted 8.5 billion GEL (1.7 percent more; exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending in the foreign currency increased by 1.8 percent).

During March 2019, the volume of lending to resident individuals increased by 0.5 percent or 68.7 million GEL, and constituted 14.1 billion GEL by April 1, 2019.

Larization ratio for total loans constituted 43.29 percent by April 1, 2019 and increased by 0.34 percentage point (exchange rate effect excluded increased by 0.32 percentage point), compared to March 1, 2018.
