Teacher Training Held at the Money Museum of the National Bank of Georgia

02 July, 2024

The National Bank of Georgia continues its commitment to enhancing the skills of Citizenship teachers across the regions. Organized by the NBG, the training program began with online sessions and culminated in a face-to-face training held at the Kvareli Money Museum of the NBG.

During the training, participants delved into financial and economic literacy topics outlined in the national curriculum. These included choosing a profession, understanding the state budget and taxes, financial products, insurance, and consumer rights in the financial sector. The teachers were introduced to practical exercises and classroom activities designed to facilitate interactive lessons, helping students to grasp these topics from a practical perspective.

In addition to the training sessions, the participants enjoyed a special tour of the Money Museum, where they learned about the history of Georgian currency and viewed unique exhibits.

A total of 35 teachers from various regions of Georgia participated in the training. Each received a certificate of participation and supporting study materials.

This teacher training initiative is part of a broader project to integrate financial education into the national curriculum. Since the integration of financial and economic literacy into the Citizenship subject in 2018, the National Bank of Georgia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, has been actively supporting this cause. The programs to strengthen civil education teachers commenced in 2019, with support from the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation and the involvement of the Civil Education Teachers' Forum. Manuals for 7th and 9th-grade teachers were developed, and to date, over 750 teachers have been trained under this project.
