The meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee was held in a different format this time: the NBG had the pleasure of hosting the winners of the NBG Young Economists Competition who were eager to join the session for the first time. Future economists were excited to have been offered the unique opportunity to understand how the Committee makes decisions. Their questions were answered directly by the leader of the country’s Central Bank and other members of the Committee. After becoming familiar with the specifics of the work of the Committee, the students held a meeting under the mentorship of Giorgi Bakradze, Advisor to the NBG Governor. They analyzed the current economic processes, debated and decided that monetary policy should remain in a tightened phase, while the rate should be maintained at the current level.
